Belize Receives Motiva Fire Truck

Imagine your home on fire with no fire truck to help. Everything you own goes up in flames. That was the situation in a small town called Independence, Belize, until Motiva Norco Refining came to the rescue.

Norco Refinery replaced an old pumper with a new truck. Instead of scrapping it for parts, Motiva donated the truck to the Belize Association of Louisiana after talking with Nan Rosado in the Emergency Response Department, a native of Belize and member of the association. Rosado learned that Motiva was phasing out the fire truck and asked if it could be donated to Belize.

"The truck is going to an area of Belize where there is no fire truck at all," Nan Rosado explained. "This truck is going to help save so many lives and homes that are now unprotected from fires."

Rosado and her daughter Sophie with Charlie Duhon, Kimberly Windon, Lloyd Schexnayder and Galen Tramonte presented the fire truck to Jean Benard of the association, who coordinated the truck’s delivery to Belize. Affixed to the side of the truck is a new logo reading "Belize Fire Department" with the acknowledgement, "donated by Motiva Norco Refining."

"This is a great humanitarian effort on the part of Motiva," Rosado said. "I am just glad I was a part of it, since Belize is my birthplace."

Sophie, Miss Belize of Louisiana, met with Prime Minister Said Musa in Belize to ensure a safe delivery.

Hurricane Iris, a Category 4 storm that hit Belize in October, complicated the delivery effort; however, the truck shipped in mid-November.
